Karma Kula

Ah… KarmaKula. I’ve reserved judgements until now and I’m still not sure what I think. I enjoyed Ninjai, and was hoping for more of the same overall awesomeness. Alas, I’m a bit disappointed. It’s kind of like a slow motion train wreck. You want to stop, but you just keep on watching it.

First of all, let me say, it’s not all bad. In fact, there’s quite alot I like about it. The fight choreography is quite excellent and the costume and set design if very good as well, even if a bit too clean at times. The special effects are pretty well done for an independent group too.

What really bugs me though is the voice of the actor playing the KarmaKula. It annoys me sooo much. He gives his lines without much emotion, and it comes out so badly. I get that maybe he’s supposed to be this emotionless bad ass, but it just doesnt work for me. The bad dialogue he’s made to say doesn’t help much either.

Anyway, it’s been getting a little better every episode (the plot, not his bad dialogue and voice acting), so we’ll see how it goes.

bear, the mostport

So I finished the bear animation and it was pretty well recieved. I was trying to see if I could take a cute thing and make it not quite so cute. I’m not sure wether or not I succeeded in that. It turned out to be pretty amusing, but still within the realm of “cute” according to the feedback I got.

One interesting piece of feedback I got was that I should perhaps have made the girl masturbate with the bear. That’s not really the route I wanted to take, but it would have been pretty provocative. In the end, I’m pretty happy with the piece, though the side view of the girl needs more work in my opinion. I think I like working with these flat (2D) characters. At least for pieces like this.
