holidays

So christmas and new years have both passed without much incident. A few of my friends are in town. I’ll most likely see them before the week is out, but what’s really good are the two events coming up in the next couple weeks.

The first one is Game Day. On Jan 11th, a bunch of us will get together and play all sorts of board and video games, while snacking on snacks, drinking drinks, and generally making merry.

The other event is 4-in-4. That’s 4 projects in 4 days, starting on Jan 12th. I’ve a vauge idea of what I want to do. Something about writing a story, maybe make some music, do something with someone else, and pen a manga/comic. We’ll see how it turns out. I suspect a goodly portion of the day will actually involve planning out the thing… unless I just go ahead and plan it out in the next week. Though that’s not terribly likely to happen.

Right now my main projects are:

  • Expanding my music library
  • Getting comfortable with my new pen tablet
  • Reading all the books I’ve fallen behind on
  • Starting to get back into some sort of workout routine. … Seriously I hate working out. Unless it’s with a group of people, in which case my primary motivation is one of competition rather than any sort of strong desire to get in shape.

Speaking of friends, one just called and is a couple blocks away, so I’m gonna have to cut this blog short. Time to put on some clothes and run.

Ah.. Life

Happy Turkey Day to those of you who eat turkey, dry meat that it is. Though it can be good if prepared correctly.
I finally got my new laptop. A thinkpad T400. Yea, I know the inverters on my last 2 thinkpad’s died after 3 years but it’s still a solid machine. I’m hoping that those were just flukes.
I’m going to spend the day cleaning my place for the first time in … 3 weeks? I’ve been so busy w/ schoolwork that I really just go home, sleep, wake up, go to school. It’s winding down now though. I look foward to next semester.
Still don’t know what I’m doing for winter break. Probably catching up on my tv shows, anime, and video games. Maybe I’ll go out with like… women and stuff (I hear it’s all the rage these days). The possibilities are endless…

So my laptop screen is dead/defunct/gone. It now exists as a desktop connected to a rather large old-school monitor. This is just the latest in a series of unfortunate events this week. Hopefully it will all be over soon.

Apple is trying to eat my PC

Posted by | General | No Comments

For the past week or two i’ve been having this feeling like the i(insert application here) is trying to take over my pc. I have itunes on my pc, used mainly for importing/burning cd’s and quick audio conversions. I also have quicktime on my pc … to play quicktime movies. Normal… great… right? wrong

For what seems like AGES now I’ve been fighting with quicktimes insistence that it has to run at startup. Why does it want to do this? I dunno. I definetly don’t want it to do this. But it insists on trying to insert QuickTimeTask into my startup services whenever I scratch myself or take a pee. Same with iTunesHelper and i think i even saw something called AppleMobileDevice pop up recently…. ¿Que Fuq? I don’t even own a bloody apple mobile device.

The worst part is the updates. I have the apple updates thingy that pops up every once in a while. That’s cool. I don’t mind it. I like to keep my applications updated. Makes for smoother sailing (usually) in the long run. BUT!!! For some reason, the geniouses who made the apple update program decided it would be a grand old idea to set my audio settings and mime setting so that when i click on an mp3, instead of getting my usual DL box, i see this giant blue Q offending my sensibilities and raping my eyeballs. Really? Why? Y? *sigh* It took me a good 5 minutes to figure out that I had to go to mime settings to change the mp3 setting, because if you do it in the regular settings, quicktime just lol’s at you…. wtf is MIME anyway? Don’t answer that. I’ll google it.

relax

So this past weekend, our assignment was to relax. A bit of a foreign concept, I first tried getting large amounts of sleep. That, failing to impress me, I spent the day wandering around the city, seeing the sights. I saw the chanel exhibit in the part (rather well done i think) as well as a pumpkin festival at the same time. I almost visited MAD, but got spirited away at the last moment for a romp around times square.

Oh! And i finally was able to find the time to clean my apartment after two weeks. I went to Oscar’s bday party and hung out with friends here and there. It was good times really. Good times. Now the week isn’t quite over so i’m going to go and get as much more relaxing in as possible.

Cheers!

Stomp your hands and clap your feet.

So, tonight, was a Thursday Night Out (TNO). We went to a little old Bvlgarian bar called Mahanut. This place was RAWRSOME. They had awesome live music, and a banging dj/dancefloor downstairs. Oh yea, and they had hookahs.

For most of the night we played a game where the objective was to try and stomp on someone’s foot while not stomping on your own. I think I won a few times, but I know for sure I lost once when some chick Marco was dancing with planted her pointy heel on my toe. Luckily she was light and it didn’t hurt for more than a second.

We also played the make-a-funny-face game. I think he was pretending to be Igor. Or perhaps Quasimodo?

This is actually the first TNO I’ve ever been to where I actually had the urge to dance. The music was that good. They had a nice mix of indie/gypsy/salsa… stuff. Some of the mixes I’d never heard the like of before… and I listen to alot of music. These are times when I’m glad I have an 80gb mp3 player. Time to go on a music hunting spree!

I actually debated going out tonight. I even entered the train stop to head back home. And here’s why. The location sucked for getting back home. I had to do a 4 transfer maneuver. J -> N -> 2 -> Dollar Cab. And it was POURING when I finally exited the subway.

Also, the dollar cab had its window either stuck open or open so that all the windows wouldnt fogged up… on the side where I was sitting. The driver flat out ignored me when I asked him if the window could go up. As a small revenge, I let his $2 fare get as thoroughly soaked as my arm and leg did.

Firewhat?

So my firewire ports have been giving me tons of trouble recently. External HD’s not being recognized, the whole nine yards. So I come in tonight and absolutely nothing fire-wire related works. I probably should mention now that I’m using an external card for firewire. I try all my tricks: unplugging, power cycling, restarting. Finally, I look in the device manager to see if maybe the latest windows update changed something while i wasn’t looking (cause sometimes I just don’t pay attention to whatever the automatic update runs past me).

Lo and behold, I see an error message! IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers… VIA… This device cannot start. (Code 10). ZOMG, not CODE 10?!?!?! Nooooooooo! But hey, now I know that the device cannot start… meaning that the problem is probably with the device itself. So I pull it out of the PCMCIA slot and give it a thorough(sp?) looking over. Turns out there’s a little bit of dust and hair jammed into one of the pinholes. I get a needle and pull it out. It’s really packed in there. I give the slot a blast of compressed air to clear out any more dirt/hair and viola, my HD’s are all back up and running.

Follow the Creed.

I’ve just finished playing Assassin’s Creed and I really have to say that as far as games go, this one by far takes the cake for an epic fail of an ending. I havn’t felt so dissapointed since I found out that Shenmue was going to be discontinued. *sniff* Poor Shenmue.

Other than the end though, the game was great. Well thought out gameplay and I really did enjoy pwning all those guards on the rooftops and the huge gangbang fights towards the end. Also, I’m really, really glad that they didn’t have any jumping puzzles. The only thing that came close to a jumping puzzle was the stage where you had all thse boats in the water. Ah, poor Altair. He’d probably drown in a deep puddle. But when the time for assassination came I ended up not going the boat-hopping route anyhoo.

Now to wait for Assassin’s Creed 2. I really liked where the storyline was going :(

A Beginning

The first post to a blog should be spectacular. It should make make grown men cry, old ladies swoon, and legal aged hotties throw down their panties as they spasm arrythmically. It should rickroll you till your ears bleed. Stronger than goatse, faster than tubgirl, more powerful than lemonparty and funnier than the Aristocrat’s joke… when you’ve finished reading a blog’s first post, you should need a washrag and a cigarette.

So… where do I begin?
